Party, Interrupted
I used to love parties. I sort of still do but as I have got older I also crave a bit of peace and quiet. If you get invited to a party what will you do if it all gets too much? Many folk who struggle with their mental health would never even go to a party as it would all feel too loud, too jolly.
My top tips for interrupting your own party noise is to practice meditation, have some quiet space and practice pauses. Biblical meditation is to take a short phrase , I use the Psalms and have a meditation of the week, and to repeat it over and over in your head until the peace of God fills you . I also think every party needs a quiet space. If
you are hosting a party this Christmas I wonder if you could have a designated quiet zone and let folk know when they arrive. It would mean even broken people like me could go to parties.
In our Renew spaces we always have a quiet space as well as a sociable one. That way people can learn to be on their own with the God who made them.
Interrupt your own partying with moments of quiet. May you know it is OK not to be OK and still find joy this Christmas.
